Tips on finding a summer internship

A few weeks back, our intern posted a guest blog about the "benefits of doing an internship while at SCC."

The blog post encouraged students to do an internship while at the community college level.

It's funny how it works. You need experience to get a job, but you need a job to get experience.

That's why people do internships. It's a chance to gain experience.

Since I did three internships while in college (I'm a nerd), I thought it would be nice to share some tips on taking the next step and landing one.

Use the Internet.
Use Simply Hired, Indeed and other job search sites to see what opportunities are out there. I searched the term "internship" located in St. Charles, Mo., on Simply Hired and found a lot of options in no time flat.

Send resumes to your dream company.
Sometimes companies could really use the help of an intern but aren't actively seeking one. The company doesn't need to have an internship ad posted to hire you. Do some digging online to find a contact at the company, and send your resume to them. It's worth a shot.

Use your college as a resource.
In our intern's post, he mentioned using your college's career services department or your major's department head to get started. This is great advice. They can help you find an internship, submit your application, get school credit for your time and more.
